Advanced Standing Art History (Non-Studio)

You’ll enter the Major in Art History after completing a suggested one year (30 NSCAD credits) of social sciences and humanities courses at another university or college. NSCAD University offers courses in art history, critical studies, English literature, Queer studies, film studies, material studies, and art education, which all contribute to a strong art history degree. You will gain knowledge and expertise through courses ranging from Ancient, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, to Canadian modern art theory and criticism.

 


Admission Requirements

In addition to meeting the NSCAD University undergraduate admissions requirements, applicants must have completed a minimum of 24 credits and ideally 30 credits or the equivalent of one-year of full-time studies at a recognized university. Eligible transferrable courses in liberal arts, social sciences and humanities include the fields of: history, languages, psychology, gender studies, archeology, English, sociology, Canadian studies, classics, costume studies, philosophy, anthropology, native studies, journalism, or theatre studies. Applicants must have achieved a minimum average grade of 67% or B- and no credit will be transferred for individual grades below 58% or C-.

STEP 2. APPLICATION FEE

A non-refundable application fee of $70 is required. Pay online at apply.nscad.ca

 

STEP 3. ADMISSIONS ESSAY

Write a brief one-page essay explaining the reasons why you wish to attend NSCAD University. Your essay should discuss the prior experience that you bring to the university. You might also want to touch on the skills and knowledge that you hope to gain, and where you think your NSCAD education might lead you in the future.

 

STEP 4. SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS

All high school, college and/or university transcripts must be submitted. Students who are currently enroled in programs should assure that either the transcript indicates courses “in progress”, or that they include with their application a copy of their current course enrolment. All transcripts must be official and received directly from the issuing institution. All transcripts must be official and sent to the Office of Admissions by email directly from the issuing institution.

STEP 5. PROOF OF ENGLISH PROFICIENCY

Applicants for whom English is a second language must arrange for the results of an English Language test to be sent directly to NSCAD.

STEP 6. LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

One academic letter of recommendation must be submitted on behalf of each applicant. The referee should address the applicant’s suitability and academic preparedness for this program. Reference letters should be sent by email to admissions@nscad.ca
